SATO RFID Versus Barcode

What is the difference?

Both barcode and RFID are identification technologies. The two technologies differ in that barcode uses optical while RFID uses radio technology. RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) is best described as a wireless memory chip, meaning, by placing it on a product or pallet, you can pinpoint and track it throughout the supply chain - from the manufacturer all the way to the customer. The differences in data exchange between the two can help to decide where each technology can be most effective. The two systems complement each other and can often be used together effectively for many purposes. With the developing RFID technology, chips are getting smaller, tags becoming cheaper and RFID enabled barcode printers that are also able to print and encode RFID labels, the benefits are truly undeniable.
