Charlotte, N.C.- October 7th, 2005- Leveraging its state of the art RFID label converting facility in Charlotte, N.C. and its strategic relationship with Avery Dennison RFID, SATO America is proud to offer 4"x 2" Gen 2 RFID labels for 14.9 cents a piece in single roll quantities. This new low-priced smart label opens the door for immediate adoption of Gen 2 RFID by end users. The thermal-transfer-printable label is also available as a Gen 1 product. The Gen 1 version is available for immediate shipment at this price and the Gen 2 product will be commercially available upon release of the Gen 2 capable CL408e printer. A variety of other label sizes and inlay configurations are also available.

"The adoption rate of Gen 2 RFID smart labels will revolve around performance and price," said Mike Fowler, President of SATO America Inc.. "Both SATO and Avery Dennison are committed to delivering a variety of Gen 2 smart labels that are superior in quality and are priced well below current Gen 1 and Gen 2 products. Both companies' ability to deliver product and attention to quality will take the guesswork out of migration to Gen 2 technology."

"At Avery Dennison, we are fully committed to helping RFID reach its full promise of a totally integrated, fully transparent global supply chain." said Mat Mellis, Avery Dennison's Vice President of RFID and specialty converting. "We have reduced our inlay pricing to help our label converting partners like SATO offer RFID labels at a more attractive price point to end users." Added Mellis, "Our hope is that lower tag prices will drive faster adoption and higher demand for tags. Our breakthrough high-speed tag manufacturing process will enable us to meet that demand as it scales up; especially with the expected migration to Gen 2 solutions."
